A bill laying out plans to cede sovereignty of Chagos to Mauritius, which is about 1,200 miles away from the archipelago ,has been put on the back-burner. UK elections occur on May 7.

Great Britain has controlled the base at Chagos since 1814, including after Mauritius gained independence in the 1960s. The Diego Garcia base been essential in USA military operations in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile some of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) trackers, the civilian support wing of the Royal Navy, are promising sustained industrial action to get better wages,and the Royal Navy is using military personnel to fill the gaps.
RFA Tideforce, a 39,000-ton tanker, is deployed to track a heavily armed Russian frigate off the south coast.
